Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has started eating meat for the first time in 25 years to recover from his recent plane crash injuries.
The rock star, who has been a strict vegetarian for most of his life, is on a protein-packed diet after he suffered third degree burns to his legs and torso in the horror last month.
He says, “I need protein from food rather than just protein supplements. I changed my diet. I would do anything I possibly could if they said like, ‘There’s a possibility you might heal faster if you do eat meat or just change your eating habits.’ So I did. I don’t regret it at all, I feel so much better.”
The 32-year-old rocker, who has been receiving treatment for his burns at a specialist center in Los Angeles, revealed that he hopes to recover soon because he is “going nuts” not being able to hold his two children, five-year-old Landon and two-year-old Alabama.
He added, “I’m so anxious to get out of here. I’ve just been in surgery after surgery. I have third degree burns basically from my feet up to my waist and both hands. One of my hands was second degree burns and one was third degree burns. I’m trying to have a quick recovery and play the drums again and be able to hold my kids again. I’m going nuts not being able to see them and spend time with them!”
However, ex-wife Shanna Moakler is still feeling the benefit of not eating meat and will appear in PETA’s newest television campaign.
She says, “There are so many good reasons not to eat meat, but for me, the well-being of my children is the most important. I want them to be healthy and also to understand that when they say ‘No!’ to meat, they’re saying ‘No!’ to animal cruelty. We talk about our pets, and I say, ‘You wouldn’t eat Biscuit, would you? Well, then let’s not eat any animal, O.K.?’”
