British recording artist M.I.A. has confirmed she’s pregnant with her first child. The Paper Planes hitmaker sparked rumors she is expecting a baby after performing at the Diesel xXx Rock + Roll Circus in Brooklyn on Saturday night with a bulging belly. Following her set, the 31-year-old singer told Pitchfork Media, “I’m creating a baby.”

The news coincided with the success of her breakthrough Top 10 hit, “Paper Planes.” “When I found out I was pregnant and ‘Paper Planes’ was in the iTunes top 10, it seemed like the whole world was reshuffled in one week, and all my plans went out the window,” she said. “I’ve got two kids, that’s what it feels like. And that’s the lesson – you can’t make plans, and you can’t say shit.”

M.I.A., real name Mathangi Arulpragasam, and fiancé Ben Brewer, lead singer and guitarist of The Exit, didn’t reveal any details about how far along she is or the gender, but they have a very important message for their young fans. “I got engaged first, then I got pregnant, kids,” the Sri Lankan star said.

She is currently working on a follow-up to her sophomore album, “Kala.” However, M.I.A. has to go on a different kind of tour before she records any new tracks. “I have to do the rounds – go see my family and show them the belly,” she said.
