Rihanna To Make Acting Debut In “Mama Black Widow”

R&B superstar Rihanna is set to make her film acting debut in “Mama Black Widow”.
The film, based on a 1969 novel by former pimp Iceberg Slim, tells the story of a black household’s migration from the Mississippi fields of the segregated south to the supposedly more open-minded city of Chicago in the 1930s.
The Caribbean singer will play the troubled and tragic sister of Otis Tlison, Carol. She will star alongside Kerry Washington, Mos Def and Brian J. White. The film is scheduled to be shot in the fall of 2008.
Otis Tilson will be played by Brian J. White of “Stomp the Yard” fame. The movie shows Otis struggling to maintain his family in the underworld of Chicago, as he turns to alcoholism, pimping, sexual deviation and racial degradation.

BET Honors Alicia Keys, Tyra Banks And More

Black star power graced the red carpet at the first annual BET Honors in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
The ceremony paid tribute to those who have given back to the community in a significant way.
This year’s honorees included: Alicia Keys (Entertainment), Tyra Banks (Media), Dr. Cornel West (Inspirational/Education), Richard Parsons (Corporate), the Honorable Maxine Waters (Government) and Janice Bryant Howroyd (Entrepreneur).

A positively glowing Jessica Alba attends Glamour Magazine and V-Day’s 10th Anniversary Luncheon at Craft in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the mother-to-be is thrilled about her impending pregnancy.
She told People.com, “It’s awesome. It’s the best time ever. I have two movies coming out, a baby, a fiancé - everything.”
The Hollywood starlet also admits she is enjoying her time away from acting.
She adds, “I don’t know if anyone wants me in their movies (when I’m) six months pregnant. I’ll get the fire and I’ll want to work again, but right now it’s a time to relax and sit back.”

L’Oreal Paris presents “A Night of Hope” in celebration with Harper’s Bazaar to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund on Wednesday, November 7th at Murano in Los Angeles.
Brittany Murphy, Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington and LeToya Luckett were among attendance.
Brittany Murphy was there looking as gorgeous as ever in an all-black ensemble.
This look is so wrong for Eva Longoria. She wore a pink and red mini-dress with sparkly sequins and a pair of black peep-toe heels. I love the shoes, but that dress is a total Monet: pretty from far away, but up close, it’s a big mess!
This is Kerry Washington showing off her legs in a navy heart shaped number. Fabulous!
